Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born as Vishvambhar Mishra on 18 February 1486 in Nabadwip, Bengal (modern-day West Bengal, India). He was a brilliant scholar and a devout follower of Lord Krishna from a young age. His early life was marked by intense spiritual experiences, which led him to renounce worldly attachments and focus entirely on spreading the practice of bhakti.
Chaitanya’s most significant contribution was the revival of the congregational chanting of the holy names of God, particularly the Hare Krishna mantra. He traveled across India, spreading his message of love and devotion and gathering a large following. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's teachings and devotional practices laid the foundation for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), which emerged centuries later.
