Ranvir Shorey

Ranvir Shorey (born 18 August 1972) is an Indian actor and former video jockey. Since making his debut in Ek Chhotisi Love Story (2002), he has worked in both mainstream and independent cinema.

Early Life

He was born to Bollywood producer Krishan Dev Shorey on 18 August 1972 in Jalandhar, Punjab. He has a brother named Lokesh Shorey. Ranvir Shorey did his early schooling from Dayanand Model Sr. Secondary School, Jalandhar. Shorey is a close friend of actor and director Rajat Kapoor and actor Vinay Pathak.

Career

He started his career along with his friend and co-actor Vinay Pathak. He was the host of the successful talk show Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun? and The Great Indian Comedy Show which aired on STAR One.

He made his debut opposite Manisha Koirala in the film Ek Chhotisi Love Story (2002). His next film Jism (2003) was a hit but he had a minor role. It was not until 2006 that he got noticed in the comedy Khosla Ka Ghosla. The film was released to much acclaim and his comic role was praised.He played Nanoo in the comedy Pyaar Ke Side Effects alongside Rahul Bose as his funny friend. He appeared in the multi-starrer Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007) which was moderately successful. He appeared in a Yash Raj Films, titled Aaja Nachle which was released in November 2007.

Ranvir Shorey shifted from Jalandhar to Mumbai when he was one year old.
He once shared that in his childhood, his family used to live in a two-storey rented apartment in Mumbai. Later, after his father’s films failed to do well at the box office, his family suffered major financial losses.
He was given the name Ranvir after the Indian actor & producer Raj Kapoor whose real name was Ranbir Raj. At the time of his school admission, his name was misspelt as Ranvir instead of Ranbir.
During his school days, he used to participate in various stage plays.
In his junior college, he studied science. However, he changed his subject to arts in the first year of college.
At the beginning of his career, he worked as a segment director for the film production house Plus TV channel. He then worked in the TV show Mirch Masala TV show which aired on Doordarshan.
In 1993, he produced the DD National Hindi TV serial ‘Mumkin.’
He then joined Channel V and worked in the post-production department of the channel.
As a VJ, he has appeared in a few English TV shows such as ‘House Arrest’ (1998), ‘Saba’ (1999), and ‘Chat Room’ (2000); all aired on channel V.
He has acted in a few Hindi short films like ‘Saamne Yeh Kaun’ (1999), ‘Mera Dil Hain Hindustani’ (2000), and ‘Shame’ (2018).
